Recent Media Coverage

Life is never dull at Upstream Asia. David Ketchum pulled off perhaps the most audacious move of the year, engineering a reverse takeover to list his agency on the London Exchange AIM

As chairman of the PR council, which represents 35 leading consultancies, Mr Ketchum is pushing Hong Kong as a "regional leader" for the industry.

With a full wallet and this energy, there seems little reason why Ketchum cannot succeed in rapidly taking Upstream to the next level

It's February and it's HOT in Asia Pacific. A few signs: The China Industrial Bank's IPO raised US$ 2 billion (with a B), following on from China Life's US$ 3.6 billion; Consumer and retail sales figures are up; And Upstream clients are investing in their businesses and launching new products and initiatives weekly. Among others, Alcatel-Lucent, Apple, eBay, EDS, Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, and O2 have been especially active. Upstream enters 2007 with strong momentum, and a strengthened management team.

Meet the Management
Here's a look at the newcomers and some familiar faces delivering results for clients and leading the company forward.

Hester Chan
Here comes the Iron Lady! Hester's reputation as a strong leader of people and client campaigns precedes her, and she's already made her mark as Managing Director of Upstream Hong Kong. A seasoned professional with a proven track record at agencies and the Hong Kong Tourist Development Board, among others, Hester's secret weapon is that she is also lots of fun to work with!

Hua Foley
Hua's experience spans consulting, TV production, and public relations. As Managing Director for China, working out of Upstream's Beijing office, Hua's Chinese origin and international experience are ideally matched to Upstream's client mix of multinationals building their business in the PRC, and Asia-based companies going global. She's also a wise and sensible leader guiding Upstream's young and fast-growing team. Oh, and did we mention the Masters Degree from Harvard's Kennedy School of Government she picked up in her spare time?

Shufen Tan
If you've ever met Shufen, you'll surely remember her passionate approach and staccato stream of creative ideas. She inspires clients and her team about the possibilities for any project you find yourself working with her on. As General Manager for China, working out of Upstream's Shanghai office, Shufen's international background and many years of experience in China enable her to bring creativity and flare to our China projects.

Katherine Wang
"You work a long day and it can either be fun or not - so why not make it fun?" This is Katherine's working philosophy. She's been in communications for more than 14 years, mostly on the agency side, because she enjoys gaining experience across a wide variety of companies, industries and people. "Try to think ahead of the client to be the best partner" she says. Her kind, amiable personality builds good team spirit, but don't mistake her easy-going style for relaxation - her fast-moving tempo keeps her Taiwan team chasing after her to catch up.

Mike Liew
The "stuck-in-80s-music" leader of Upstream Southeast Asia is well-known in the PR industry for his "work hard, play even harder" approach. With a career that has spanned some 20 years across several ASEAN countries, Mike is not only very clued in to the best places to party in Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta and Singapore, but he also knows the most effective way to get your messages across to your audiences in those cities, without breaking a sweat.

Paul Mottram
Paul is a blue streak of strategy in action. He's one of the fastest thinkers and most coherent writers you could ever hope to work with. He has forgotten more than most people will ever know about telecommunications, electronics, enterprise software solutions, outsourcing and dozens of other topics. He's the "go to guy" for Upstream execs and clients around the region for counsel and management direction. After 5 years as Upstream's COO, he has returned from his sabbatical tanned, ready and rested.
